Bad Breath Problem? Take a Bad Breath Test

Do you have a bad breath problem?

Halitosis, the medical term for bad breath, is a problem that can not only cause you to feel embarrassed, it can also contribute to social anxiety.

If you have halitosis, you might not want to talk in a group for fear that, when you open your mouth, everyone will smell your bad breath. You probably also try not to get too close to people, which can make chatting, not to mention flirting, a little difficult. In fact, some people with a halitosis problem avoid social situations all together.

The interesting thing about this problem is that some people who don't have it are convinced they do, while some people who do have it have no idea.

Luckily, there are ways to determine whether or not you have bad breath.

The Lick Test

It can be hard for a person to judge how their own breath really smells. We become accustomed to our own body odors. Once we get used to the odor of our own breath, no matter how strong it might be, we might not be aware of how unpleasant it actually is.

One solution to this problem is to take a sample of your breath, and move it away from yourself for a few seconds.

Stick out your tongue, and lick either the back of your hand or the inside of your wrist. Hold the hand away from you for a few seconds while the spit dries. Once dry, smell the area you licked. Does it smell bad? Then you have bad breath.

The Scrape Test

Often, halitosis actually originates from the back of your tongue. And one way to test whether or not that's where your bad breath is coming from is with the scrape test.

Take a plastic spoon and use it to very gently scrape the back of your tongue, and then smell the spoon. How does it smell? If it smells pretty bad, that might be the source of your halitosis.

A Temporary Problem

If you failed both the lick test and the scrape test, there could be a simple solution. Often, bad breath is a result of poor hygiene, and the problem can be solved by brushing your teeth more carefully, brushing your tongue, and gargling with a mouthwash that kills bacteria.

Also, halitosis can sometimes be caused by a temporary problem, like poor health, the food you've eaten, or stress.

Do you have a bad breath problem? The first step to solving the problem is finding out for sure with a bad breath test.

Bad Breath Prevention: A Few Simple Tips

Bad breath is a problem no one wants to have. That's why it's important to learn some simple methods of bad breath prevention.

When you think about it, having bad breath doesn't sound like it should be such a serious problem. But those suffering from this condition know just how serious it can be.

Halitosis, the medical term for bad breath, can affect your social life in all sorts of unfortunate ways. It can make you hesitant to get too close to people, both total strangers and those you really care about. Some people start avoiding social situations all together, all because of halitosis.

Here are some ways to prevent and eliminate bad breath.

Find the Cause of Your Bad Breath

Finding the cause is the first step to dealing with the problem.

Halitosis can be caused by lots of things. Smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol are common culprits. So are some of the foods you eat, like onions or garlic.

Poor oral hygiene, minor ailments, and prescription medications are also often responsible for this problem.

Halitosis can also be caused by more serious conditions, like gastrointestinal problems, tooth decay or infection, gum disease, or repertory tract infection. In these cases, getting proper treatment for your ailment will help eliminate your bad breath.

Proper Oral Hygiene

It's surprising how many of your bad breath problems could be solved if you just brushed more thoroughly.

Halitosis is often caused by any food particles that have gotten stuck between your teeth, in your gums, or at the back of your tongue. And proper oral hygiene can help get rid of these food particles.

You should brush and floss your teeth two or three times a day. You should also brush your tongue, because bacteria trapped in the tongue is often the cause of bad breath.

Finally, use an anti-bacterial mouth wash or oral rinse. This will remove any remaining food particles, and eliminate odor causing bacteria.

Brush after Meals

Do you brush before you eat breakfast? If you have a halitosis problem, you should be doing it the other way around.

Brushing after meals will remove the food particles that could result in unpleasant odors.

If you can't brush after a meal, at least rinse your mouth out with plain water. This will help freshen your breath.

Bad breath is a problem no one wants to have. And, by following these bad breath prevention tips, you can help prevent or eliminate the problem.

Good content! I struggled with tonsil stones for years before I even knew what they were. They definitely create a few annoying side effects, the main one being the really unpleasant breath! For everyone who has unmanageable bad breath, you should definitely take a few moments to research tonsil stones and see if that's the root cause.

Dry mouth can also cause bad breath. For you to be able to avoid dry mouth, you should take a lot of water. It is also good that you eat fruits and chew parsley for fresher breath.

I had faecal breath odour for YEARS, never had a girlfriend till now. Talked to many doctors who took my money then showed me the door....I finally had a friend who used to suffer bad breath, tell me about an eBook he bought 5 or 6 months ago the covers bad breath, tonsil stones and post nasal drip. He asked me how his breath smelt and I didn’t smell a thing. He said the eBook amongst much else had him stop eating or drinking dairy food, soft drinks and coffee. It covers every possible cause and provides the cure for each cause. So I’m like reading it and doing all the stuff it says to do. Thinking this has to be bull. But after a few days my tongue started turning red and felt nice. I worked up the courage to ask a friend how my breath smelt and he’s like I don’t smell anything. Now I’m thinking all those years of humiliation and I could have solved it ffs! There’s a site about it called Oraltech Labs. Just google it. Anyway hope this works for you too. Sufferer no more!
